The Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Center (ADSIC), the government entity responsible for developing the ICT sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, announced on Thursday that there have been no reports of ‘Ransomware’ cyberattacks across government entities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
This comes as hundreds of countries have been under attack by the ransomware, called ‘WannaCry’, which has impacted many entities and organizations in those countries.
ADSIC called on all Abu Dhabi-based government entities to undertake rigorous cautionary measures, constantly monitor vital systems, and back up data to avoid loss or damage in case the virus strikes.
ADSIC noted that all cautionary security procedures are in place to protect programs and electronic storage capacities. Nevertheless, the threat is still ongoing and we urge all government staff to exercise caution when opening emails from an unknown source, in order to avoid exposing the network and their data to the malware. ADSIC thanked government entities for their continuous efforts to maintain the security of the Abu Dhabi government network and the roles they are playing.
